We have reached the first weekend of March, and as is typical this month, the weather is usually a roller coaster ride. An early taste of spring can quickly turn to a reminder that we are not all that far removed from winter. Well, technically it is still winter until March 20th. And before we get to the forecast, let's take a look at normal high and low temperatures along the I-95 corridor for the first weekend of March.
Average High | Average Low | |
Boston | 43 | 29 |
Hartford | 44 | 25 |
New York City | 47 | 33 |
Philadelphia | 50 | 32 |
Baltimore | 51 | 31 |
Washington, DC | 53 | 35 |
Quite the difference in average temperatures compared to just about a month ago. It's amazing how quickly things "warm up" as the sun angle changes this time of the year. Anyway, onto the forecast...
Overall, it will be a quiet weekend here in the Northeast, but there will be a few weak disturbances that will make their way across the area. This will keep scattered flurries and a few snow showers in the forecast, but mainly for interior locations where some Coatings of snow are possible. Friday night and Saturday night will offer the best chances for any interior snow, but don't be surprised if some flurries make it to the big cities. Here is a look at total snowfall expected through Sunday afternoon per the 12Z Friday Hi-Res NAM computer model. Again, the main focus will be away from the coast and into the higher elevations of the Northeast.

The bigger story this weekend will be the chilly weather as temperatures will average 10 - 15 degrees below normal. Also, it will remain rather gusty and wind chills will be in the single digits and teens at night this weekend. Here is a look at forecast temperatures for 1 PM Saturday and 1 PM Sunday. It will be a bit more comfortable on Sunday as temps will not be as cold and it won't be as windy compared to Saturday.

Once we get past this weekend, we do have a pattern change on the way. It will stay dry for a good portion of next week, but at the same time, temperatures will be on the way up. In fact, by mid-week we will be talking about afternoon highs in the 50s and 60s. More on that in our next blog on Monday. Until then, have a great weekend and don't forget to follow us on social media, also check out our podcast called The Weather Lounge.
