The weather has been an up and down this week across the Northeast. We started with snow on Monday, then we enjoyed a brief taste of early spring as temperatures reached the 50s Wednesday afternoon. This will all be followed by a rainy weekend and along with some snow for interior parts of the Northeast late Friday night into early Saturday.
We'll finish the work week dry, but our next weather system arrives Friday night. Precipitation will develop across Maryland first, then spread northward as we head into the early morning hours of Saturday, eventually reaching the Boston around mid to late morning. Right now, it looks like the I-95 corridor will be warm enough to just see rain from this next system. However, there will be enough cold air just inland to see some snow late Friday night before changing to rain early Saturday. And while amounts will likely be in the Coating - 1" range, there may be just enough to make it slick by Saturday morning (some amounts could reach over 2" for the highest elevations of the Poconos, Catskills, Berkshires and Adirondacks). Here is a look at the simulated radar for 1 AM Saturday.

Once we get further into Saturday, the precipitation will be mainly rain as temperatures warm into the 40s by Saturday afternoon. After the rain exits, we should be mainly dry Saturday night. However, another weak area of low pressure will slide across the region on Sunday. This will be all rain for the Northeast with perhaps some pockets of freezing rain as you get into the mountains. Both events will be mainly light, but the first one will pose the greatest risk for any wintry weather. Here is a look at total precipitation through Sunday evening.

And despite the cloud cover and precipitation this weekend, temperatures will be above normal both Saturday and Sunday afternoon. This will bring February to an end as we welcome March on Monday. The current forecast seems rather quiet to start the new month, so at the moment it does not look like March will come in like a lion. But, we all know how crazy March can be here in the Northeast, one day near 60 degrees, then next 6 - 12 inches of snow!
