An Up & Down Week In The Northeast...

March 29, 2021 // Article by: Brad Miller

After a cool and windy Monday, we have a very nice Tuesday on the way here in the Northeast.  It will be a chilly start to the morning with many locations (especially away from the coast) beginning the day below freezing.  But, lots of sunshine will lend to a pleasant day with afternoon highs just a bit above normal.  Here is a look at forecast temps for 4 PM Tuesday.

Hopefully you will have a chance to enjoy some time outside on Tuesday, because the rest of the work week looks unsettled along with a cooling trend as well.  Our next storm system arrives on Wednesday, but it will take some time for the rainfall to make it's way up the I-95 corridor.  In fact, it likely stays dry from New York City to Boston during the daytime hours (with the exception of a few sprinkles).  Locations south of there and into Maryland will see rain chances increase by late morning through Wednesday afternoon.  Check out the forecast simulated radar for 5 PM Wednesday.

Once the rain arrives, it will be another soaker for the Northeast and New England Wednesday night into Thursday.  Check out these rainfall amounts through Thursday afternoon.

Now for the surprise factor...some locations may end as snow.  And while this is not unheard of, early spring snowfall does happen, despite Thursday being the first day of April.  However, it doesn't look like it will be an issue along the I-95 corridor.  But, inland parts of the Northeast and the elevations may see an accumulation of snow, perhaps even a few inches across upstate New York and northern New England.  Here is a look at the forecast simulated radar for 10 AM Thursday.

We'll of course continue to monitor and keep you updated with any changes, but don't be surprised to maybe see a few "non-accumulating" snowflakes Thursday morning.  This storm quickly exits Thursday night and will be followed by a dry, but cold and breezy Friday with highs only in the 30s and 40s.

So, that's about it for now.  Again, very typical weather this week for early spring.  Big swings in temperatures, some sun, and yes, perhaps even some interior snow.  Enjoy the week everyone and stay safe !!  Don't forget to check us out on social media and our blog called The Weather Lounge.
