July 19, 2022 // Article by: Bobby Bianco

Heat stroke is one of the most dangerous heat-related illnesses that can occur in the summer. There are many signs to show heat stroke and if these are recognized early, the impacts can be lessened.

What are the signs? (According to the CDC)

One of these that was a little shocking was the "no sweating" sign. However, since sweating is how your body cools down, if you do not sweat, your body will continue to heat up, so that can be a tell-tale sign that something is wrong.

If signs of a heat stroke are being witnessed, there are things that can help prevent this. These include, but are not limited to:

It is important to use COOL water if someone is experiencing signs of a heat stroke because ice cold water can shock the system. It can trick the body into thinking the body is cold, thus informing it to heat up. If possible, monitor the victim's body temperature and try to get it lower (around 101 - 102°F).

If medical assistance is not available, or is delayed, you should try and get in touch with a hospital emergency room and they can provide some additional help.

So, remember these tips while you're in the summer heat, you'll never know when information like this can come in handy. It might even save a life! Stay cool this summer.
