Rainy in Eastern New England Wed Night into Thursday, Drying Out Some this Weekend

While Wednesday started off largely dry and quiet across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, we continue to monitor the development of a coastal system. This system could bring periods of rain late today and through tonight as it travels north, especially in eastern New England. Elsewhere looks to hold dry across the Mid-Atlantic and interior Northeast into tomorrow.

Breaking it down further, periods of rain turn steadier and heavier in eastern portions of New England (primarily in eastern most CT, RI, and eastern MA) this evening, continuing at times through the overnight hours. Highest rainfall totals through tomorrow look to fall from the eastern tip of Long Island, up through RI and southeastern MA, where 1.00-2.00" of rain are possible in spots. Central CT and central Long Island look to escape the most of the rain from this system, but some showers can still pass over the area. Meanwhile, farther west in western CT and Nassau County/towards New York City and the Jersey Shore, little if any rain is expected.

Temperatures overnight tonight are expected in the low-to-mid 60s across the area. Through tomorrow morning, the storm exits off the New England coast, leaving behind a partly sunny sky for the afternoon and evening (other than a rogue shower near the Cape). High temperatures will climb into the low-to-mid 70s across much of New England, rising into the low-to-mid 80s across the Mid-Atlantic.

Following a quiet Thursday night under a mainly clear sky with just some areas of patchy fog, conditions warm up and turn more humid on Friday as high pressure dominates the region once again. As a result, a dry day is expected across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic under more sun than clouds. Despite slightly more uncomfortable temperatures in the mid-to-upper 80s to low 90s, it will be a good day for outdoor activities.

Heat and humidity persist into Saturday to kick off the weekend, with temperatures once again expected to reach the mid-to-upper 80s to near 90. Overall, it's expected to remain on the drier side with high pressure still having a good foothold over the region. However, a few showers and storms become possible in the afternoon and evening. If this activity occurs, it would favor northern New England and areas south in MD/N.VA, associated with two approaching disturbances. Similar conditions persist for Sunday, with isolated showers and storms just turning a bit more likely across the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic as temperatures climb through the 80s and the low 90s.

Check back here Monday or Tuesday as we discuss this next week's weather. Have a great next few days, everyone!
