Rain Chance Increases Later This Weekend...

July 30, 2021 // Article by: Brad Miller

After a fantastic finish to the work week, the weekend will start off very nice here in the Northeast as high pressure remains in control.  This will lend to a sunny and pleasant Saturday, but it will be a cool start as some interior areas of the Northeast fall into the 40s !!  And while it won't be that cool along the I-95 corridor, many locations will start off the day below normal for late July.  Check out these forecast low temps for Saturday morning.

So, after the "coolish" start to the weekend, the rest of Saturday will be absolutely magnificent with plenty of sunshine expected up and down the I-95 corridor.  Temperatures will also be very comfortable for this time of the year as afternoon highs reach the upper 70s to low 80s.  A top ten day of the year for sure.

Clouds start to build into the Mid-Atlantic Saturday night and there could even be a few showers late as low pressure starts to develop over North Carolina.  By Sunday, a cold front will approach the Northeast and the risk for showers will increase from west to east during the afternoon.  At the same time, there is some uncertainty as to the exact track of that area of low pressure in the Mid-Atlantic.  If it tracks closer to the coast, a good portion of the region will see a period of rain, but if it stays farther offshore, then we'll just see scattered showers and perhaps a few storms Sunday afternoon into Sunday night with the cold front.  Here is a look at the simulated radar for 5 PM Sunday.

Either way, Sunday night will run the greatest risk for rain in the Northeast.  The good news is that the cold front should be strong enough to sweep all the wet weather off the coast by Monday morning.  This will result in a dry and quiet start to the new work week.
